Introduction to Knowledge Management

In this week an intensive lecture was held the covers introductory aspect of what knowledge management is all about.
  •  It was explained that there is no single universal definition of KM 
  • KM emerged between and 1992-1994
The KM emerges as a result of the problems faced by many organization in accessing particular knowledge, some of which are:
  • Knowledge monopoly
  • Difficulty in accessing the data
  • Postpondment of event due to absence of key role players
  • Difficulty to collaborate in learning due to absence of common resources
  • No methodology to solve problem
  • Outdated information
It was understood from the lecture that the KM came into action to tackle the above and other related issues concerning KM and to provide avenues for researcher and organisation to
  • Share best practices
  •  Sourcing expertise efficiently
  • Learn about customers
  • Forming knowledge from data
  • Sharing relevant knowledge to the needy appropriately
  • Managing knowledge for re-use
